A few weeks ago I was taken to the Isabella Plantation for a Sunday stroll. It is a place my family used to meet when my globe trotting Grandpa was in town and always seemed like magic to me, not unlike the world of Peter Pan. I had not visited since I was about ten years old for fear of it's spell being broken. However I was absolutely blown away by this beautiful oasis of colour. It is tucked away in the south west corner of Richmond Park and as you enter under the leafy branches a magnolia trees you become immersed in a sea of colour, smell and form. Journeying through the plantation reveals a stunning variety of spaces and species. While i'm sure this landscape has year round interest I think it is definitely at it's peak during Spring when the multitude of azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom. The sheer volume of flowering plants of all shapes and sizes is simply overwhelming, many much larger than you would see elsewhere which allows even adults to feel dwarfed by their surroundings transporting you from reality if only for an hour.
